PFI is well-equipped and has a wide range of equipment for structural and chemical analyses of wood fibres.
Advanced depicting techniques and analysis tools for 2D and 3D structural characterisation of fibre, paper, composites and nanostructures have been developed and applied. PFI has methods covering an extensive range of structure sizes, from the macro to the sub-nano level.
In addition, our research on properties of and interactions between different pulp types and fractions shall provide deeper understanding of their role within the paper structure, and thereby facilitate improvements of the final paper quality and functionality.
