Development of a new products and new and cost effective biorefinery process for combined production of chemical pulp and hemicellulose

The aim of this project is to develop new products and new cost-effective biorefinery processes for combined production of chemical pulp and hemicelluloses, resulting in considerably lower chemical costs, reduced pulping time and increased production capacity. The key elements in the innovation are high pressure/temperature mechanical pretreatment of wood chips combined with hemicellulose extraction prior to chemical pulping/digestion.

The project is partly funded by the Research Council of Norway, and is a cooperation between several leading partners from industry, institutes and universities.
